Franciscan Medical Group Announces Free Open House/Health Fair

Tacoma, WA (PRWEB) August 13, 2008 -- Franciscan Medical Group today announced that the Gig Harbor Medical Clinic will host a free open house/health fair on August 23, 2008 from 9 a.m. to noon, to celebrate the completion of a major remodel. The event, which is open to the community, will feature free health screenings, information booths, clinic tours, giveaways, family activities and refreshments. In addition, the clinic will hold a food drive to help support the Gig Harbor/Peninsula FISH Food Bank.

"Exceptional patient care and community service are at the heart of Franciscan's mission to serve," said Jeffrey Harrison, DO, regional medical director, Franciscan Medical Group. "This health fair not only gives us the opportunity to showcase the clinic, our services and our clinicians - it also allows us the opportunity to give back to the community by building awareness through health education and screenings. Our goal is to provide everyone the tools and resources they need to lead healthier lives."

The clinic has been redesigned to provide patients a warm, inviting place to heal - with a soothing decor and new specialty suites to better accommodate patient needs. In addition to primary care services, specialties now offered at the clinic include women's health, urology, eye care and podiatry.

The free health screenings will include agility and balance evaluations, blood pressure checks, cholesterol/lipid profiles, glaucoma checks and risk assessments for heart disease. In addition, physicians and providers will brief attendees on Human Papillomavirus (HPV), bladder health, prostate cancer, diabetes and more.

Representatives from St. Anthony Hospital will also be on hand to provide the latest updates about the Franciscan Health System's new community hospital in Gig Harbor which opens in early 2009.

Fair activities at the Gig Harbor Medical Clinic will include free face painting for children. Also, free child fingerprint identification kits will be given away (while supplies last). A few of the doctors have agreed to sit in a "Dunk a Doc" dunk tank for charity. All proceeds will be donated to the Gig Harbor/Key Peninsula food bank, which serves our local community. The clinic will also be accepting canned goods and non-perishable items to benefit the same cause.

The open house/health fair will be held at the Gig Harbor Medical Clinic, located at 6401 Kimball Drive, N.W., Gig Harbor. There will be tents and information booths in the main parking lot and free parking is available. The event is free and admission is open to everyone.
