Healthcare Consulting Leader QHR, Strategic Health Care, Sen. Roger Wicker Partnership Yields $500,000 Grant for King's Daughters Medical Center
Brentwood, Tenn. (PRWEB) July 31, 2008 -- QHR (www.qhr.com) hospital client King's Daughters Medical Center (KDMC) in Brookhaven, Miss., is slated to receive a $500,000 federal grant as a part of the 2009 Health and Human Services, and Education spending bill that was approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee earlier this month. KDMC's grant application, championed in part by U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (Miss.), was initiated by QHR and its strategic service partner Strategic Health Care. Once awarded, the grant funds will be used in the development of an electronic medical records system for KDMC.
According to QHR Regional Vice President Chip Holmes, KDMC's commitment to providing quality healthcare to the citizens of Brookhaven is clear. What is not always so clear is how the facility will fund the improvements it wants and needs to maintain the quality for which it's known.
"Through my interactions with KDMC and its CEO, Alvin Hoover, I became aware of the hospital's desire to implement an electronic medical records system. The hospital's leadership is always looking for ways to improve their operations and, in turn, patient care," he said. "QHR's relationship with Strategic Health Care really proved helpful in securing this grant money. Together, we were able to navigate the grants application process and assist King's Daughters in moving forward with their plan to bring an electronic medical records system to Brookhaven. It was a tremendous team effort."
"Electronic medical records will improve the quality of care provided to our patients by making patient information readily accessible to physicians and other healthcare providers. The new system will also provide increased patient privacy," said hospital CEO Alvin Hoover. "Our organization is thankful to QHR, Strategic Health Care and Sen. Wicker for their help in securing this grant. Specifically, I'd like to thank QHR for identifying this opportunity and then helping KDMC seize it."
"These funds will serve as the cornerstone of medical technology at King's Daughters Medical Center," said U.S. Senator Roger Wicker. "I look forward to working with Sen. Cochran to ensure this important funding is advanced as this bill moves through the remainder of the legislative process."
The 2009 Labor-HHS appropriations bill has cleared the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension committee and now awaits consideration by the full Senate.
Located about 50 miles south of Jackson, Miss. in Brookhaven, Miss., King's Daughters Medical Center is a 122-bed hospital that features the state's first labor-delivery-recovery-postpartum unit. KDMC is also home to an out-patient surgery unit, a Level 4 trauma unit, an ICU and an imaging department that boasts some of the finest, most up-to-date equipment in Mississippi. In addition, in 2003, KDMC opened a half-million-dollar fitness and therapy center.
