The Weather Channel Presents Action-Filled Epic Conditions As Latest Home Entertainment Series In Dvd Tin And Blu-Ray
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) May 22, 2008 -- The Weather Channel and Madacy Entertainment are releasing a second home video compilation. Epic Conditions, on both DVD and Blu-ray Disc format, will be sold exclusively at Best Buy stores from May 25 through August 2. Thereafter it will be available online and in other retail stores starting August 5.
Epic Conditions, which first launched on the network a year ago, shows the dramatic, jaw-dropping spectacle of athletes at their peak performance during the most challenging conditions that nature can provide. For this original production, The Weather Channel partnered with the well-known Warren Miller Productions which provides shooting angles, fast action and wide shots like no other production team can. The home entertainment series will include surfing, skiing, white river rafting, kayaking, snowboarding, wind surfing, rock climbing and mountain biking and other adventures that highlight the perfect combinations of weather, location and sport.
The DVD version comes on five discs, while the Blu-ray Disc will be on two discs. Both versions will contain 15 episodes of Epic Conditions. The series is presented in Widescreen and runs 575 minutes. A 10-episode bonus on both versions will be Weather Ventures, a series that revels in the beauty of nature at destinations where everyone dreams of going. Both Epic Conditions and Weather Ventures were among the first programming series presented on The Weather Channel in High-Definition because they both so spectacularly showcase all the benefits of the HD format.
Both the DVD disc and the Blu-ray Disc provide an exciting photo gallery bonus feature, enhanced with a musical background to complement the stunning photography. The Blu-ray version brings the wonder of HD to life with exhilarating images that capture the crowning moments of extreme sports.
The DVD tin package will contain a deluxe booklet with never-before-told stories of on-the-air meteorologists at The Weather Channel who thrill to the challenge of their favorite outdoor sport as enthusiastically as they do to revealing the twists and turns of weather. These highlights include: ? Hurricane Expert Dr. Steve Lyons who was driven into his lifelong pursuit of weather information by being a surfer dude who built a weather tower in his backyard to check daily on the favorability of conditions for surfing. ? OCM Nicole Mitchell, who is one of TWC's experts on the weather that affects travel and who herself travels to the ends of the earth to satisfy a sense of adventure that plunges her into everything from kayaking to sky diving. ? Paul Goodloe, co-host of the network's Evening Edition, is a New York state native who turned his love for cold weather into a career and also into the pastime of skiing, then added new skills to master snowboarding.
Other familiar faces from The Weather Channel - Vivian Brown, Stephanie Abrams, Jeff Mielcarz, and Jim Cantore - are also featured telling about their own favorite outdoor pastimes. The booklet also provides a wealth of background information about many of the sports featured in the collection.
The upcoming Epic Conditions marks the second time The Weather Channel has released programming for the home entertainment audience. The first release, which performed well in sales, was a compilation of programs taken from Storm Stories, a long-running favorite that dramatically shows the courage and bravery of individuals and rescuers in the face of severe weather. That first release contained a bonus episode to preview Epic Conditions.
