DiagnosisONE Leading Public Health System in Pakistan

Nashua, NH (PRWEB) February 7, 2008 -- DiagnosisONE announced today it has been selected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to develop the IT infrastructure for the national public health system in Pakistan. This effort is expected to bolster the health and welfare of more than 160 million Pakistanis, many of whom are often exposed to diseases such as hepatitis and typhoid fever. DiagnosisONE's D1.Surveillance system will also be used to monitor potential disease outbreaks such as the avian "bird" flu.

The system will help public health officials in Pakistan access, collect and report data about real or potential outbreaks of communicable diseases. Pakistan has recently faced many public health threats, including cholera outbreaks after a 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck the country in 2005, dengue fever and an outbreak of bird flu that killed 2 people. The D1.Surveillance system will help in similar situations to quickly identify patients who reported similar symptoms.

In today's connected world, the capacity for easy and frequent international travel contributes to the rapid spread of disease, including disease spread intentionally by terrorists, and creates the need for an early warning system such as D1.Surveillance. The D1.Surveillance system is currently used by the Massachusetts Bureau of Communicable Disease Control and Prevention and the Massachusetts State Laboratory Institute.

The new system will, for the first time, also offer an electronic log book consisting of a light EMR that will be distributed for free to physicians and will allow them to chart patient demographics and health information that can be used to drive care delivery and communicable disease reporting. The D1.Surveillance system is expected to be fully operational in 2008.

In the near future, health care providers in Pakistan will use DiagnosisONE's surveillance system to connect laboratories, physicians' offices, emergency rooms and hospitals, and make reports and test results available to epidemiologists for review. With the D1.Surveillance system in place, officials will be able to isolate outbreaks more quickly.

DiagnosisONE was also recently selected to deploy its system in Puerto Rico where it is now operational. D1.Surveillance is an HL7 3.0-based product that uses all web interfaces and is deployed quickly and easily. Significantly, it contains easy-to-use interfaces that allow for mapping between its standard ICD-9, CPT, LOINC and SNOMED code sets and codes used by hospitals and laboratories.
