Casto Travel, Inc. Launches Green Travel Initiative
(PRWEB) December 15, 2007 -- At this point the science is now unmistakable: global warming is a fact. One can debate the causes but there really is no argument that our current trends of consumption and pollution are exacerbating the warming of the planet. Travel is by no means the largest source of pollution and carbon dioxide emissions, but it is by far and away the fastest growing. Casto is at the forefront of implementing solutions and finding means to travel responsibly.
On December 7, 2007, Casto hosted its first annual Green Day event in five offices around the country, including their headquarters in Santa Clara, California. Participants of the event included travel vendors Hertz, who showcased their Green Car Rental Collection, Backroads, an eco and adventure Tour Company, and the Cypress Hotel, a Kimpton Hotel. In addition, representatives from the Spare the Air program and Santa Clara Green Business Association presented materials on green initiatives for the home and office.
Casto has replaced the company's vehicle fleet with more energy efficient and environmentally friendly Honda Civic Hybrids, which are used daily throughout the San Francisco Bay as part of Casto's Visa and Passport division.
"For quite some time I have wanted to create a program to help our traveler's reduce their impact on the environment," said Marc Casto, President and COO of Casto. "We needed to start from within before we roll out a comprehensive program for our clients. This is the first step."
Casto was awarded the Santa Clara Green Business Association "Certified Green Business" seal and signed up a team at CarbonRally.com to track their progress. By employees accepting carbon-reducing challenges, they have saved 1,059 pounds of CO2 emissions to date, in addition to preventing the release of 46,480 pounds of CO2 by distributing 280 compact fluorescent light bulbs to employees on the day of the event.

Trying New Things in Business is Inherently Wasteful
For businesses to grow and expand, new things must be tried. Our world is changing ever faster, and new products and services keep customers interested. New processes and technology reduce costs or make possible new offerings. By definition, "new" means not tried and true. The greater the innovation or "jump" the greater the potential for both big gains as well as failures. It stands to reason that the process of trying new things will have plenty of mistakes along the way, and mistakes mean wasted efforts, wasted money and wasted resources. Waste is inherent in the process of innovation.
