Saint Elizabeth Health Care to Deploy MedShare's Latest Mobile Computing Solution at the Point of Care
Toronto, Ontario (PRWEB) October 22, 2007 -- MedShare today announced that Saint Elizabeth Health Care (SEHC) is deploying its MedShare eMotion? software in an ongoing commitment to improve the quality of care it delivers to home care clients. The solution allows SEHC to replace its paper-based charting process, which is considered best practice by many in the industry, with a tablet-based solution connected via high-speed wireless data communications. The rollout will begin with a small group of nurses, with plans to be complete by spring of 2008.
"Our technology mandate is to lead change and innovation within our industry in order to improve health care practices, client and staff satisfaction, and quality of care. In keeping with this goal, we are continually trialing out new technologies and have settled on MedShare's unique approach to electronic charting," said Roy French, chief information officer at SEHC. He went on to say, "This technology will allow us to electronically reproduce our clinical documentation and assessment forms under an electronic health record structure, so that our nurses can conveniently and securely access the information they need - when and where they need it. For the first time we are truly in a position to eliminate paper altogether."
MedShare eMotion implements MedShare's Always On, Occasionally ConnectedTM technology whereby a local replica of the enterprise database is cached such that a health care worker can have full access to their client's entire electronic medical record including assessments, clinical notes, referral and discharge documentation and photo imagery. Compliance with PHIPA privacy legislation is accomplished by fully encrypting the database and only caching locally what is needed by that health care worker for their cases. If a mobile device is lost or stolen, the data is useless to any unauthorized person. A recent research report on Wireless Home Care Solutions published in August 2007, by VDC Research, suggests that Home Care Organizations adopting wireless technology can expect return on investments in under six months while improving the quality of care delivered.
"In order to eliminate paper entirely, we had to meet the Always On, Occasionally Connected design challenge as healthcare workers must always have critical medical data available to make decisions, even if the wireless signal is unavailable. Even with urban wireless data coverage over 90%, this was not enough to eliminate carrying paper. Our only solution was to develop a technology that keeps all of the data available locally, could support complex medical charting procedures, is entirely secured and complies with privacy legislation," said Gary Smith, CTO of MedShare Inc.
MedShare eMotion was developed on Microsoft's .Net 3.0 and utilizes the latest XAML user interface technology and SQLCE which manages replication between the field and the MedShare HC server. The enterprise server houses all medical records, and the replication manager only moves the data for the health care worker's cases. If a new case is added during the day, the entire record is automatically moved to the tablet within a matter of minutes of intake. Please contact MedShare to arrange for a copy of the wireless research report.
