West Hartford, CT Business Owner Announces New Scholarship Award as Part of Her Commitment to Breast Cancer Awareness
West Hartford, CT (PRWEB) October 10, 2007 -- Jody Ferrer has faced many significant challenges in her life. "What's helped me through them was having hope," she stated. "I don't believe you can sit around and wait for something to happen. You definitely have to be your own best advocate and have action. But I feel without hope it is hard to move forward or to take that action". In her twelve years of starting, operating and growing her business, she has definitely taken action. Every October, she holds a breakfast for breast cancer awareness and also donates a portion of the month's proceeds to the cause. This year, she has even sponsored a cow in the 2007 Cow Parade in West Hartford Center. Her cow is named "Udder Hope" and represents the hope which people can use to help overcome the challenges of life.
Jody started her business, The Perfect Promotion (http://www.theperfectpromotion.net), in October of 1995. She now has an office in Bishops Corner, a dedicated staff, and ambitious growth plans. "I want to increase our business locally as we grow outward, perhaps establishing sales branches in New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. I owe so much to my community and I hope to continue to grow the business and give back to the community, and of course, most of all, enjoy my family as we only have one life and it is going so fast!". One differentiator in her business is her commitment to the community.
Her involvement with Cow Parade began when she gained their business, producing Cow Parade t-shirts, caps and other promotional items. "I had been involved with Cow Parade the last time they grazed in West Hartford (2003) and I thought it would be so much fun to have a cow -- but I couldn't justify the expense at the time". She more than justified the expense by tying the cow in as a tribute to her mother, who passed away from Breast Cancer, and to Breast Cancer Awareness. "Publicly honoring my mother is something I do every October during Breast Cancer Awareness month and I thought this would be a fun way to do it along with my breakfast."
In her ongoing effort to raise Breast Cancer Awareness, she decided it was time to go beyond just the breakfast. She would create a scholarship in her mother's name. The scholarship, officially titled "The Rae Lasky Scholarship of Hope for Learning" will be given to the person who submits the best essay which answers "What does Udder Hope mean to you?" (http://www.udderhope.com). The winner will receive $1000, which can go toward education, and it doesn't have to be college - "not everyone wants to go to college. It can be a technical or vocational school," she added. While most of her promotional marketing efforts are normally limited to West Hartford and Greater Hartford, and certainly area schools are encouraged to have their students enter the contest, "the theme of "Udder Hope" is really universal, and I wanted to use some modern marketing to spread the word over the web. I created "Udder Hope" profiles on MySpace (to reach today's youth), LinkedIn (to reach business professionals) and Facebook (to reach everyone else). I'm hoping people will find me on there, add UdderHope as a friend or contact in their networks, and leave comments on what "Udder Hope" means to them."
The charity Jody is working so hard for is Hartford Hospitals Partnership for Breast Care. This year's annual breakfast was held again at the Pond House in West Hartford on Thursday, October 4th and featured a guest speaker who has been influential in raising awareness for Breast Cancer. Last year's speaker was RuthAnn Lobo. Everyone who attended was really lucky because RuthAnn brought her daughter Rebecca --the famous former UConn basketball player. "They were an awesome speaking duo," she added. "Each year I also invite some of my vendors so that the people who attend can get some ideas for future promotional needs. This year we were excited to have Bernie Siegel speak. "Bernie was very inspirational and his words are always appreciated." Bernie Siegel is a best selling author and speaker, specializing in the mind-body's connection with healing.
