It can be a scary and nerve-wracking event when you tell your family about any condition you may have. Being sick can be scary and worry the ones around you. Most people have a hard time dealing with not only the stress of being afflicted with a disease but they deal with the guilt that is put on them by the thoughts that they are a burden to those who love them. It?s this stress and the general worry that can make telling your family that you have colitis very difficult. Colitis is rarely life threatening but that does not make it any easier to tell the loved ones around you that you have it. It can be embarrassing and some may even feel ashamed. Come to terms that you have colitis. Many people deny the fact that anything is wrong with them, this happens especially when the disease afflicts a very personal part of the body such as the colon. Without coming to terms that you have colitis, it will be impossible to confront the ones around you and let them know. Colitis can be an incredibly painful disease and one that is often hard to hide from others. Don?t feel ashamed and don?t deny reality. Hiding from problems will only make it worse and eventually people will begin to ask questions as the colitis becomes worse or you begin to receive treatment. These questions often times drive people who are afflicted with colitis but can?t come to terms with it, crazy. To avoid the entire mess, simply read up on colitis and become knowledgeable on the subject, those who are educated about it will be able to understand what is wrong with them and come to terms with what they are going to have to do.

If you?re able to come to terms with the fact you have colitis, then the next step is to let your loved ones know. If you can tell them then the rest will come easily. Your family is there to support you and much of the healing and understanding process requires their involvement. A great misunderstanding that many have is that they need to be strong and better before they can ever reveal to their family that they have had colitis. This is not true and in most cases in a healthy family environment you should tell your families before you begin to heal. They will give you the strength needed to undergo the treatment and will help you with what can be for some an embarrassing illness.

Colitis may be embarrassing, painful and most times downright unpleasant but it doesn?t have to be something that is endured alone. Being able to share the experience with your family and lean on them for support is one of the few ways in which one?s experience with colitis can be made more pleasant. Simply forgo the stress and worries that many have when telling their parents. Come to terms with the fact you have an illness and disregard all other facts. Once the message is out your family will do the rest. Being sick is not fun for anyone but having to go through such an experience alone is far worse.
