Effective Ways to Decorate Your Child?s Bedroom
Most new parents want to create a pleasant and stimulating environment for their new baby. But where do you start? There are many simple ways to brighten up your child?s bedroom without needing an interior designer or spending a lot of money. Firstly you need to think about themes and colour. Do you design something exclusively for your baby girl that will later be used for a younger baby brother who will not appreciate a pink fairy tale theme? So decide if your bedroom is for a girl, a boy or whether you want something unisex. Also think about the size of the room when choosing themes and colours. A small room will not be able to take strong, bold colours as this will make it look small and too busy. A small room is more suited to soft pastel colours and simple decoration such as a border, or perhaps a ?spot? mural. However, if you have a large room you can afford to be as big and bold as you dare! The most easy and effortless way to decorate the room would be to paint the room in a soft pastel colour, with perhaps a chair rail or ceiling height border and purchase co-ordinating curtains and bedding to continue the theme. Many mail order companies on the internet offer themed designs that are not available in the high street chains and have a complete range of bed-linen, curtains and other accessories. Stencilling is also an effective way of decorating with very little skill involved and most of the large DIY stores sell stencil kits with tips for creating your desired effect. You can also purchase self adhesive stick on pictures to create your own designs in a variety of themes from princesses, fairies to sea creatures and pirates. Children?s furniture, especially if it is white looks very effective painted. This can involve adding the child?s name to a toy box, having hearts or flowers painted onto drawers or chairs, or having individual designs painted onto wardrobe doors, cupboards and headboards. There are various specialist painters who offer this service, who can be found on the internet and some mural artists also paint onto furniture. If you have some artistic flare and are keen to have a go yourself, you could paint a simple ?spot? mural. ?Spot? murals are very adaptable as they can be used in large or small rooms and can be placed strategically around a room, avoiding doors and furniture. A simple image can be drawn onto the wall either freehand, or if you are lucky enough to have access to one you could use an overhead projector and carefully trace the projected image. The mural should be painted using a combination of acrylic and emulsion paint. There are several professional mural artists based throughout the UK and most offer a free no-obligation site visit and estimate before undertaking any work. A good mural artist will produce a sketch for you to approve prior to undertaking any work along with a firm price (most can work to small or large budgets). They will also be able to provide you with examples of their previous work to ensure you are happy with the quality of their murals and offer references if required. Whatever you decide for your child?s room, make sure it is colourful, fun and most of all that your child loves it!
