Jedi Principles in Business and Life
A properly trained Jedi Knight is not likely to need to resort to dishonesty in business. Fairness and equity is Jedi Standard Practice. But more often than not we are required to deal with the Jedi's nemesis. Let me tell you about an establishment near my home that I would consider to be a Sith Lord training facility. As soon as you walk in the door you'll have one or more "associates" pounce on you. Their sale tactics, not only are condoned, but are encouraged by the management, and they are extraordinarily aggressive. One might describe them as insistent, but I call it rude. All they're doing is trying to make a living, but I feel like they are trying to make all of their money off of me. Some time back I purchased a couple of items from this establishment. I made payment arrangements. One month I decided to pay 2 months worth to pay the loan off early. I skipped payment the next month, as I was under the impression I was covered, but I had made a mathematical error and had sent in $6 less than 2 months worth. I was so harassed by their "collections" dept, you wouldn't believe it. They called 15 times in ONE DAY! I was told that I if I didn't "make my account current" I would have to "forfeit the items." My response was "come and get it." When the manager called me (the 15th call of the day) he informed me that only $6 stood between me and a silent phone. Six dollars! I told him that it was a simple, honest mistake, being short that much on my last payment, but I was not going to pay it now, as I had grown quite fond of speaking to them. A Jedi Knight does not compromise his principles, ever. A couple of weeks later I did bring the account current, and a couple of months after that I paid it off early- considerably early. A Jedi Knight keeps his word. My wife Janie and I recently went to see the movie "Wild Hogs," with John Travolta, Tim Allen, Martin Short, and William H Macy. It is a great movie, very funny, and an awesome bit of writing. The theatre was packed, but, oddly enough, the audience was respectful. The only problem was there was a "flickering" that occurred throughout the whole film. It was very annoying, and hard to disregard. I looked around and tried to see or hear if anyone else was bothered by this- but it I did not detect any aggravation other than Janie's and my own. After about 15 minutes I was ready to go get the manager. The problem; Janie and I had been the first patrons in the theatre and so had secured the best seats in the house- the center of the middle row. Getting up would have made a few older folks on my left or a family with 2 very well behaved kiddos on my right endure at least a couple of interruptions. I tried using a humanoid version of the Jedi Mind Trick to "convince" someone on the outside of the row to go and complain- to no avail. I then attempted to contact the manager directly with my brain signal, but either his or my radio was turned off. I decided I would rather just snuggle up to Janie and enjoy the movie, which I did. A Jedi Knight is loyal.Should the people of Planet Earth train as Jedi's there would be much less distasteful occurrences as previously described. One could purchase an item without being assaulted; or enjoy a movie- knowing that someone would notice an improperly functioning projector and fix it. There is a lot of work to do, fellow travelers.
